‘Amazing support’ from community despite numbers being down.

Each year motorcycle riders go through Terrace collecting toys and food for the Salvation Army Hamper program. But this time around things were a bit different.

“Well another Terrace Toyrun has come and gone, numbers not so great due to weather and COVID but the amazing support from the ones that came really warms the heart,” reads a Facebook post from local resident Fern Back.

Though the rain and lack of sun this summer has been objectively awful, it wasn’t enough to dissuade an outpouring of support from the community.

“We filled the Salvation Army van with toys, we were blessed by our very own United Minister Teri Meyer, our Santa aka Norm Mercure put smiles on children’s faces along with the elders, Theresa Williams and Le-an Myshrall filled our bellies with burgers (from beyond burgers) and hotdogs, Dee Chisholm Florence Kirby Dale and Fern Beaudette helped sell poker tickets and 50/50. Eric Back helped setting up and taking down the tables at each stop, the blockers on the roads to make sure we all stayed safe, Janine Kraft fed us timbits and coffee to warm out bellies from Tim Hortons on the South side, Thornhill Pub donated gift bags for all the riders,” she wrote.

All in all the event was a success–even while adjusting to these uncertain times.

“It was certainly different from our previous years but the weather held up and it was a very enjoyable day,” Back wrote. “I’d love to give all the riders a very heartwarming thank you for always supporting such a great cause that wouldn’t be possible without you.”
