Here Is What The UNIFOR Aluminum Smelter Workers Strike Looks Like From The Air

Skeena MP Taylor Bachrach showed up at one point.

For the past week or so workers at the Rio Tinto Alcan aluminum smelter in Kitimat have been on strike

The dispute is over the company’s use of contractors and its refusal to hire full-time workers, as well as disagreements over workers benefits and pension plans.

Local drone operator Scoopedad Drone recently showed up to the picket line, and shot some candid footage of the strike. At one point Skeena MP Taylor Bachrach swung by.

“Taylor Bachrach paid a visit to the brothers and sisters on the picket line yesterday,” Scoopedad Drone explains of his new video. “Said a small speech on the stairs of the UNIFOR trailer in his local 2301 strike shirt.”

The dispute is still ongoing.

“With families throughout our region feeling the impact of the strike, it’s disappointing the parties have not yet returned to the bargaining table,” Bachrach recently posted on Facebook.
