Watch This Special Olympics Athlete From Smithers Take The Polar Plunge

That looks pretty freaking cold.

Torben Schuffert is used to chilly weather. He was a snowshoer on the BC Special Olympics Team after all.

But this video of the Smithers local taking a polar plunge outside looks pretty freaking cold.

Schuffert took the plunge to raise awareness and money for Special Olympics BC.

“In 2022, the event will again be virtual – so brave participants can take the chilly challenge from home,” its website explains.

Schuffert has been involved with the Special Olympics since he was 11 years old.

His goal is “to be the best that I can be as an athlete and person.”

In an interview last year he was asked, “What is one word you would use to describe yourself?”

“Brave,” Schuffert replied.

After seeing him take the polar plunge, we definitely agree.
