Here’s Your Chance To Easily Learn Haida Words And Phrases

The online mini-lessons center on ocean food.

Learning a language is tough. But for the past six or so months School District #50 Haida Gwaii has been making it a little bit easier.

Every week it’s been offering online mini-lessons, usually a few minutes or less, that explain key words and phrases related to oceans and food in both Skidegate and Old Massett Haida Language.

The latest lesson, which you can view here on YouTube, teaches you how to say “ocean food”, “spidercrab” and “they spear spidercrab.” Each video is accompanied by awesome illustrations from Deja-Lee Busch that are in the recent book Ocean Foods Illustrated.

So far there have been 30 weeks of lessons. View them all here
