‘Buying a store was never in the original plan’

Thys Jaarsma had one idea of how his life would be, but then circumstances forced him to choose another path. “I spent 25 years working in a sawmill,” says the owner of Kitwanga’s General Store in a recently posted video interview. 

But after he was laid off, Jaarsma and his wife decided to become small business owners, even though “buying a store was never in the original plan.”
